This update, referred to as FeatureOnDemandMediaPlayer, removes Windows Media Player from the OS, although it doesn’t kill access to it entirely.

If you want the media player back you can install it via the Add a Feature setting. Open Settings, go to Apps > Apps & Features, and click on Manage optional features.
Select Add a feature and then scroll down to the Windows Media Player entry and click on Install.


I don't see a problem here.
a) Windows Media Player is not a default media player on Windows 10 installations. So, your Aunt Tilly and Uncle Average Joe won't see any difference anyway.
b) They did the exact same thing (changing from "installed by default" to "optional feature") with telnet.exe long time ago. Although it affected only new installs at that time..
c) Minimizing the number of installed vulnerable apps is actually a good thing!
